Ptolus Art Sneak Peek I

Okay, we know that we normally don't do art previews until a book is almost ready to go on sale, and Ptolus doesn't hit store shelves for a long time. Still, when you take a look at the work of the six artists represented in this deluxe project, we think you'll be glad we didn't wait.

In Ptolus, we're pleased to present the color work of Jason Engle, The Forge Studios (Maciej Zagórski and Pawel Dobosz), Michael Komarck, Eric Lofgren, Howard Lyon, and Michael Phillippi. Sue divided up the more than 350 pieces of artwork for the project into three waves, and the artists have been working on it since spring—some for even longer! They have completed waves 1 and 2 at this point, so roughly two-thirds of the artwork is complete right now. I would not be surprised to learn that the Ptolus art order was the largest one ever compiled by a single designer for a single roleplaying book.

In times of old, dark elves warred with the dwarves of Dwarvenhearth, but today their main enemies are the surface elves. Their mere existence is illegal in the city, but they are all too prevalent beneath beneath the streets of Ptolus. Illus. Michael Komarck.

You never know what you'll see when you're walking down the streets of Ptolus—even a rampaging fire giant. Luckily for Ptolus, there are many adventurers ready to defend the city from the things that dwell beneath it. Illus. Michael Phillippi.

Some of the maps in Ptolus are more illustration than cartography. The Street of Million Gods, for example, will be shown in the book as the centerpiece of a number of pull-out illos of important Temple District locations. This is another travel-book inspired concept that has found its way into Ptolus. Illus. The Forge.

The city of Ptolus is a major port on the Whitewind Sea in the world of Praemal. Illus. The Forge.
